Funding Opportunity: The Sustainable Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Programme
The Sustainable Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Programme (SMMIP) is being hosted by Innovate UK in collaboration with the Department of Health and Social Care. There are two key funding calls that eligible candidates are able to apply for.
The Grand Challenge:
- The Grand Challenge is for long term projects (up to 4 years). These projects will have a systems approach and are possibly utilising multiple technologies to address a significant innovation opportunity. It is a collaborative research and development initiative, with potential funding up to £10 million, involving at least three partners across the medicines manufacturing supply chain.
- The initial phase for the Grand Challenge opened on the 14th August 2024 and will close on the 16th October 2024. Seed funding of up to £100k is available to support the development of a consortium and the preparation of a proposal for a future large-scale Grand Challenge award.
Collaborative R&D:
- This funding opportunity (of £0.5-£2 million) is about innovation that is focused on a single technology. The call opened on the 30th August 2024 and will close on the 16th October 2024.
- The start date for this programme will be the 1st February 2025 and will only be for short projects (up to 2 years).
- A minimum of two organisations are required for each bid and an SME must be included.
An online networking event where you will be able to learn more about the programme will be held on the 11th September. You can now register for the event here.
