Clinical challenges- do you have a solution?
Many of you will be aware of Academic Health Science Networks (AHSNs), a new initiative aiming to create closer links between clinicians and industry, thus fostering partnerships which speed up adoption of innovation into practice to improve clinical outcomes and patient experience.
You have a vital role to play, so please see below!
SEHTA is an industry partner of Imperial College Healthcare Partners (ICHP), the AHSN for North West London, and has been working closely with the ICHP to develop a programme of engagement with industry around specific clinical challenges. ICHP AHSN has launched its call to industry, to help address three urgent clinical challenges that the NHS is facing in North West London.
The three challenges posed are:
- Preventing pressure ulcers in the home
- Providing home monitoring for psychiatric patients to prevent hospital readmissions
- Supporting the correct administration of hospital drugs
Solutions must:
- Be genuinely strategic solutions that focus on the root cause of the challenges rather than providing fixes to the consequences
- Be largely ready to be implemented
- Include efficiency and financial benefits, as well as transition costs to switch from current to new practice
All proposals must be submitted by 5pm on 30 May 2014.
After this date, the most innovative and relevant ideas will be invited to an event in June with clinicians and procurement experts to review the proposals in more detail. Following the event and depending on the quality of proposals, it is intended that a competitive dialogue procurement process will be used. The submission is just a short questionnaire, requesting information that you should have readily to hand.
Getting procurement, clinicians, and industry together in one room is a rare event, and an opportunity that must be seized. We are asking you to consider submitting a proposal, if the challenges are relevant to you, and to spread the word to your contacts.
You can read more about the challenges, and submit your ideas via the ICHP website which is part of the Industry Gateway, an online space created by Imperial College Health Partners, the Academic Health Science Network for North West London, to help industry to engage with the NHS.

SEHTA considers this to be an exciting opportunity to change the way industry works with the NHS, and would strongly encourage you to engage with them!
