BioWales 2012 (March 13 and 14) is the 10th anniversary of the international life sciences event, and to celebrate, the event has scaled up, moved to its new home in the iconic Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay, and is attracting a global audience with a programme of prestigious industry speakers.

The two day conference is based on the key pillars of Innovation, Translation and Commercialisation, with speakers such as the chairman of GlaxoSmithKline, Sir Richard Sykes, who will provide the event’s opening address, and Professor Trevor Jones, director-general of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry.

The 2012 conference programme has been put together by the body which advises Welsh Government on its life science strategy, the Life Science Sector Panel, headed by biotech entrepreneur and founder of Merlin Biosciences, Professor Sir Chris Evans – another keynote speaker at BioWales 2012.

In addition to the inspirational conference, there is an exhibition of industry and academia to showcase the innovative research and development taking place in Wales, and a brokerage event that brings together industry professionals to make valuable business connections in a speed dating style.

Sir Chris Evans will unveil exciting plans for the future of life sciences in Wales, and the Futurewatch session highlights new technologies and commercial ventures to look out for. Sir Chris said: “We have really upped the ante for BioWales 2012 with a 10th event in this magnificent Welsh landmark building that will capture the dynamism and vitality in the life sciences in today’s Wales. It’s an exciting prospect and not to be missed!”

The event reflects the significance of the life sciences sector in Wales, represented by some 330 companies, employing over 15,000 people and contributing more than £1.3bn to the Welsh economy.

The Medilink UK Awards and a gala dinner will be held for delegates at the Wales Millennium Centre on March 13, featuring entertainment from some top class acts.

The brokerage at BioWales will feature an anticipated 550 one-to-one technology meetings to enable delegates to network in the most structured way – to investigate new business opportunities, build contacts, and discuss potential collaborations, licensing and manufacturing deals that will generate £2.5m of investment over the two day event.
