NISCHR CRC Training course: Biological Agents in Cancer – Demystifying the Science

This one day course is designed to provide an overview of the mechanisms of biological agents at a level appropriate for research nurses and other members of staff that are required to discuss new agents with patients and colleagues.

Following the training, participants will be able to:
- Understand normal cell division and basic cancer biology
- Describe the mechanism of standard cancer treatments. Be able to distinguish between groups of cancer drugs according to the mode of action at the cellular level
- Demonstrate knowledge of biological agents-why they are needed, how they are developed, how they work. Have insight into agents in development
- Discuss the expanding role of the research nurse
- Discuss with patients and healthcare professionals the role and mechanism of biological agents. Compare the action of biological agents with standard cancer treatments
